Assessment Tools
Diane regularly utilizes
high-quality, validated
assessment tools when working
with individual coaching clients
and teams. Sometimes called
inventories or instruments,
these assessment tools are
valuable in evaluating
strengths, natural talents and
abilities, tendencies in dealing
with others, and in identifying
areas that need attention or
improvement. An assessment given
during the early stage of
coaching or team development is
an excellent “jumping off” point
for discussion about what a
client wants to achieve.
Diane
is certified to administer
and interpret
the Leadership Practices
Inventory (LPI), the
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
(MBTI)
and the Emotional Competence
Inventory (ECI), a 360
degree assessment tool that
measures an individual’s EQ.
Any one of these
instruments
may be used,
depending on the unique
needs of the individual or group.
The
benefits of using assessment
tools include:
 |
Greater awareness of one’s
own tendencies. |
 |
The ability to recognize
one’s typical behavior when
under stress. |
 |
Increased understanding and
empathy for co-workers. |
 |
Improved team work and
collaboration. |
 |
Ability to better manage
conflict. |
 |
Higher levels of trust and
communication. |
 |
Increased adaptability and
flexibility. |
 |
A capacity to embrace –
rather than resist – change. |
 |
Identification of strengths
that can be leveraged. |
 |
Awareness of weak areas that
need attention. |
 |
Improved creativity,
innovation, and motivation. |
 |
Better performance and
productivity. |
Emotional Competence Inventory:
Based largely on the work of Dr.
Daniel Goleman and Dr. Richard
Boyatzis, the assessment of
emotional competence (or
emotional intelligence – EQ)
focuses
on self-awareness,
self-management, social
awareness, and relationship
management.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator:
First developed and used in
1942, this assessment is
intended to help individuals and
teams understand unique
preferences and personality
traits in themselves and among
the group. With this
understanding, teams are able to
leverage strengths, work more
effectively, see differences as
a benefit rather than an
obstacle, and maximize the
talents of every member of a
team.
Leadership Practices Inventory: Based on the work of Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, this 360o
assessment survey focuses on
five practices of “Exemplary
Leadership” – Model the Way,
Inspire a Shared Vision,
Challenge the Process, Enable
Others to Act and Encourage the
Heart.
